Birmingham v Millwall match thread

The result was what I expected after the Uddersfield game, so a useful point in that respect so, move onto the next game and get a win and the last run of 7/8 games don't look too bad.

I'm somewhere right in the middle between you and Life with the Lions on Burey and his miss tonight. Fair enough, you can't blame him solely for the defeat and he did create the chance. But he's got to cop a bit of blame for it too. That's the way it goes when you pull on the shirt. Haven't watched it back but my memory of it is that his second or third touch was a bit heavy and he got a bit too close to the keeper before he pulled the trigger. It's a shame because had he squared it or scored it himself, he'd be the hero tonight. It's fine margins sometimes in football.

Let's see how he gets on over the rest of the season.
Or went round the keeper with some guile

Seems all a bit ridiculous all this furore about the Burey chance. The kid made a brilliant interception and charge at goal, his last touch before shooting was a bit heavy , so it was that touch and the fact Ruddy closed him down very quickly which made his mind up for him. He probably panicked for a split second because he was afraid he wouldn’t get the shot away at all and the chance would be gone.
This is football and more precisely forward play. A more experienced specialist forward could easily have found himself with the same dilemma and not taken the chance.
Said it before Burey is an excellent prospect and needs to be backed by the fans and not criticised after all we don’t have an ambulance of the type of player he could be, still nothing better than seeing players of his ability running the bollocks off of defenders with their backs to goal.

Just think how many times goalkeepers spread themselves and save one on ones it happens frequently even for multi million players like Kane and Haaland. Who’s to say Herman wouldn’t have fucked it up he‘s not exactly set us alight with goals. I like Burey and he is the ideal player to come on late in a game when defenders tire. He doesn’t deserve criticism for taking it on.

Burey was on the train back to kings cross from Leeds on Saturday night after the Huddersfield match and while all the kids were driving the poor sod mad for selfies and he was only too happy to oblige you do get the sense that he is a quiet lad. I would guess that he is very much a confidence led player and perhaps that’s why he seems to play better off the bench.

One thing is for sure slagging the boy off for missing a chance that he created for himself isn’t going to help him or us one bit, it’s even more ridiculous when you consider that he scored a 90th minute winner for us a little over a week ago. Fans are constantly moaning that not enough youngsters come through but when they do some want to write them off after a couple of bad games. A familiar criticism is that young players are ‘never given a chance’ well this is what giving them a chance means, sticking by them when the going gets tough.

We have all seen what he’s capable of and in my mind he should be encouraged to take risks, if they don’t come off then encourage him some more. Most of our team are honest plodders but Burey has got that rare ability to change a game on its head. I hope on Saturday if he gets a similar chance he has another crack at goal.

exactly, amazes me that the one player with a bit of spark - literally the ONLY player we have that can create something otu of nothing is being piled upon. he ruined there defender, his run on goal (bradshaw would have been tackled within a second) was pefect but he made the wrong choice.

yes, lets drop him. let's have a team with almost zero flare and verve.

burey is very, very useful for us.
Bang on mate and let’s give him some slack as he’s still learning 👍

It's not and not the point i was making which is, Bradshaw and Afobe are strikers, they have the instinct in front of goal that players of other positions don't, simple as that. They anticipate what the keeper will do and know when's the right time to pull the trigger. Nine times out of ten a striker scores that chance. How about giving the kid some credit for having a go in the first place.

He's a good, exciting but raw player, can create something out of nothing, run at defences, take players etc. He has to allowed to make mistakes otherwise he'll fold and think why should i bother. If the crowd turn on him ,him and we are fucked.
he's changed what 3 or 4 games for us this season.

he was a few mils from winning it for us on tuesday.

it's teh old mentality where if the player is not blowing out of his arse and chasing shadows then he's for the dustbin.

reminds me of afobe's chipped goal last week. that goal was no bullshit, that was an incredible goal. nothing blood and thunder and hit and hope about it. the whole move from turnign teh defender to chipping the keeper was top drawer.

if we are going to be top 8, you need players who can do that sort of shit, whether starting or off teh bench.

He is, very shy and retiring. My mate coached him at Wimbledon and use to sing his praises, said he was very quiet, modest and needed lots of encouragement. He don't deserve or need some of the abuse he gets at games, it's not going to help him and most importantly, us.

We're our own worst enemy at times, blokes on here hammering him, saying what he should have done as if they've been faced with that moment thousands of times. League one at best blah blah blah. Well he's playing and contributing in the championship so how's he league one at best!!! He's a kid for fuck sake with plenty of time and scope for improvement. There's nothing worse than an angry and frutsrated armchair expert

' Should have went round the keeper with some guile ' simple as that, no context about the speed of things, the ball nor the keeper coming at you like a steam train. It's no wonder Rowett is reluctant to risk certain players!

This.
Lee Gregory occasionally missed one on ones and so has Tom Bradshaw.
Tyler will improve on this. Of that I'm sure.

one on ones are a nightmare to finish.

Yep well agree with that. I liked the fact that Burey had the bottle to take the shot on, when it could've been a little easier to square it knowing he wouldn't get flak if he missed a chance. I'd like to see him take the next shot on too.

Nah, piece of piss if your'e sitting in armchair :hehe:
People are forgetting or Ignoring the fact that Ruddy Is a very decent, experience keeper.

I could be wrong as I ain't watch It back, but at the time I thought the way he came out and the angle he set himself at was near perfect for the situation.

Of course a goal could still have been scored but, It's silly of me to think this I know, maybe keepers have an Idea of what they are doing and are not just there to make up the numbers?

There's no saying that Vlog would have put it away either, on top of that, Burey is right footed, Vlog was to his left if Burey was even aware of that is another one for the hindsight pro's.

It was and he was coming at a fair speed, the gap gets smaller vey quickly! But, but, but Burey should then of performed a triple axcel summersault, done six keepy uppies ( on his nose) then finished with aplomb.

Harris out, etc,,,,,,,,,,
