We need a mix of youthful and experienced. He's played for Eindhoven so will be capable of playing at a decent level. We're not giving out four year contracts anymore, 28 for a centre half isn't old in the modern game. At least four years of football left.
Some interesting statwankery (if accurate), but the summary of him at the bottom doesn’t read well.
We have two aging CH‘s, who don’t have the skill or composure to play the ball out from the back comfortably, and don’t have a decent passing range (especially on the deck!)
Why not do what we never seem to do, and build for the future? Hutch hasn’t been the player he was since he came back from injury last season, but we still have Cooper! He’s a bit younger than Hutch and last season acquitted himself well (as he usually does!)
Him and Cresswell (20) formed a good partnership, so you’re right, a mixture of youth and experience is important, but if Hutch is on his way out (so to speak), then we have that experience left in Cooper. Get a much younger centre half in (a Cresswell type with some experience already), to replace Hutch, and let him get even more experience playing alongside Cooper!
Then when it’s time to move Cooper on, the younger CH becomes the senior CH. Another younger CH comes in, and you end up with two players (the younger one being say, 20-22, and the more experienced one, say, 23-25!) Both will be more mobile and able to play out from the back with confidence (which will help the midfield get further up the pitch), and we’d have the added bonus of selling one, or possibly both, at different points in the future (making sure we had adequate replacements when each player is sold), for a tidy profit on each!
Can this Dario bloke play out from the back, and has he got a better passing range than our current two CH’s? If so, then great - sign him up! Personally, I feel we’re just be replacing one aging CH with another aging CH, and if we were to get promotion next season, how would he or Cooper fare against fast, skilful forwards of the Prem League? Not well, IMHO!
