The lad has a lot to prove. He is 24, can’t get a game at Sheffield United so his future clearly lies elsewhere. He has to get some regular game time and show that he has what it takes. We are the shop window so if he has any aspirations to either persuade us to sign him or impress some other club that is watching. It really is up to him.
When you don’t play regularly then you lose your touch and your match fitness. He probably has what it takes but it is all about finding it again and showing the football world what he can do. He has played for Scotland many times so he can’t be that hopeless. I do realise that Scotland have had their fair share of plonkers pulling on the shirt but they have also had some gems who have played well for them.

The next three months are going to be critical for the lad. He will have to work his nuts off in training, get regular starts and show GR that he has what it takes. To be fair to our manager he does have a decent record of giving players who have lost their way a fresh start. Bennett is a good example and up to a point so was KZ. The trouble with the latter was that he would play two games and be out injured for the next six.

So, let’s see what happens on Saturday. If he gets a start against one of his old clubs, puts in a decent shift, scores or sets one up for another player then that would be a good home debut. If he is a duffer then it is solely down to him. Watch this space.
