Have to say Motson irritated the fuck out of me. I would say he was the precursor to today’s commentators full of crap instead of just talking about the game.

For me it’s Moore and Davies.

There are still a few good ones in radio 5 though. Football always sounds better on the radio.

Yes. I like him but not when he covered Liverpool games, he couldn't hide his bias or affection for them.

I'm glad he wasn't around when those fucks won the League the other year

What I liked about the commentators back then is that they were never up the backside of the top teams (except Motson) unlike today's who are all over them

I met Brian Moore in a petrol garage in Blackfriars Road years ago. Nice bloke and said he loved going to The Den.
He said the ladder was useful!

My favourite bit of commentary was from the 1979 Nabisco World doubles from the Royal Albert Hall.
Commentator John Barrett on game involving Mark Cox and David Lloyd. They were receiving serve and Mark Cox moved up to the net.
Barrett; " They're now in the attacking position Cox up"!
