Having had more time to reflect (I’m still just as miffed, don’t think I’ll be able to let it go)…
I don’t think the players had any belief that they were capable of doing it. When we came to the crunch, we did all we could to fuck it up.
By some miracle we went from throwing away a 5 point cushion to having it back in our hands on the final day. Even the Blackpool game we made very hard work of…
But to come out 3-1 up at half time not wanting to put Blackburn to the sword, or at the very least put in 110% and throw bodies on the line, is unforgivable.
Lack of belief certainly comes in to it if you ask me. Will take time for this mentality to shift and it showed me we are quite a long way off of being promotion material yet.
For next season I would look to bring in a couple of players who have experienced promotion, play off campaigns and know how to handle the occasion. Not necessarily older heads but ones that will add some nous to the squad.
