Ideally, we need a back up option for every position on the pitch, so if the preferred first teamer isn’t doing the business, the No. 2 can be used. Competition for places keeps players on their toes! There were, IMO, a few times last season where players like Flemming, Danny and Billy should have been dropped, but without decent coverage, that wasn’t likely to happen (and didn’t!)
Hopefully, if Rowett can get a few more players in to cover some of these more important positions, then any players dropped, injured or suspended, their replacements can seamlessly come into the team and offer the same level of professionalism and performance!
