This season

We can only hope that his son, who had been learning the ropes at Millwall (no doubt to eventually take over when John had retired), still wants to keep Millwall as part of his dad’s venture capitalist portfolio.

Naturally, his son’s thoughts will be with his father’s passing now, and it may be that he won’t be interested in the day to day running of the club, or concerned with any transfers (in or out) for the time being, which is totally understandable given what has just happened to his dad, and how he deals with his own grieving process.

This will initially cause uncertainty with players either coming in or going out of the club, and it may be that Steve Kavanagh will have to take over the wheel for awhile to steady the ship, before a decision is made as to whether the son wants to continue with his father’s legacy, or simply sell the club to the highest bidder!

All of us would prefer the former over the latter, and we can only hope that that is what eventually happens, as the alternative of having new and uncertain owners (after 16 years of wonderful stability), just doesn’t bear thinking about!

Being a natural pessimist I’ve always worried about our club but under JB’s reign, especially in recent years, I’ve become more and more optimistic.

I just pray JB’s son is a carbon copy of his Dad and the most progressive period in our history continues 🙏

Worrying times ahead ☹️
