Our away support 22/23

To be honest, none of the away games in the league this year get the juices flowing for me.

Cast your mind back to 17/18, our first season back in the Championship recently, we had Forest, Villa, Wolves, Leeds, Brentford, Fulham to look forward to. Even Charlton coming up a couple of years after.

Who wants to go up to gaffs like Blackburn, Stoke, Rotherham etc, absolute khazis.

Even QPR, the only other London club in the league and arguably the most shitty area/ground to visit.

I do most away games and our support away is pretty poor. The fact it’s such a Northern League must be a big reason as some of these trips have been hard work , especially mid week. Don’t buy the cost of living as a reason , as everyone in the country is affected by that , or the poor away record we have. I just think many have got out of the habit and that’s what it is for me a habit , as I go however we are playing , or where we have to go to play.

Hull City chairman paying for all official away supporters travel costs till the end of the season. Good gesture.

We've had quite a few midweek away trips, Swansea we took 300, next game was at Noriwich and we took just over 1200. Just under 500 for a midweek jaunt to Burnley. 1300 at Sheffield on a Saturday. It isn't that bad considering our home gates, cost and the fact many people are struggling to pay bills etc. Then you have bods that will sit indoors and watch it on a moody firestick for free.

Not sure that graph is very accurate either.

Our average home crowrds are the best in years. Away has tailed off but i don't believe it's cause bods ain't bothered. We took 700 more away to Swansea last season on a Saturday this season midweek 302.

Lets be honest we are still a big enough problem away for the o/b to remove any restrictions

And the league is boring as fuck for good away days that haven't been done

Get some drop from the prem and some good come up and you wont get a ticket

Our away support is poor simple as that, it’s nothing to do with allocations or distances. I think it’s the result of years of OTT restrictions by the club and old bill although it’s got better in recent years as far as communication between the club and fans go.

Our away support in terms of numbers has never been great apart from those few years in the late 90s. Post early 2000s most people simply couldn’t be doing with the membership bollocks, shit KO times, dry trains, constant harassment by the old bill and mass escorts and simply fucked it off.

It’s ridiculous that you need a membership to go to somewhere like Swansea or Hull on a Tuesday night. Have a look at other clubs when they come to ours, it’s very often pay on the day for them and clubs actively encourage their fans to go whereas Millwall, no doubt coerced by the authorities, seem to do everything not to want fans to travel.
Don't worry, the fan on the board and the supporters club will sort it and get the restrictions lifted.

I think many that don't travel much don't understand that. Still very lively at many aways, we have a historic rep and everyman and his dog want our scalp.
Especially now where there is little to no real trouble. Lots of clubs still like to try and take us a scalp to large it on twitter etc

Exactly. Two blokes could give one of us a dig and all off a sudden it's ,,,,,,,,,,,Millwall got done by blah blah.

We were the real deal when it mattered numbers or not. There's still clubs smarting from what we did to them so we're fair game to there newer lot 20 years too late.

100% Peckham. We’re still the club that any firm wants to pick off. It’s seen as a win for them

Not just firm mate, cowardly stragglers' as well. Was at a certain London train station many year ago with a few chaps about an hour after a game. Two of our youngens went into the bog on the platform, seconds later five or six Nigels follow them in and give them a dig. Did not end well for the Nigels when we stepped forward. Fucking hate bully ups when the numbers are to heavy.

It’s an idea but whether or not the club would take it on board is another matter. Although the relationship between the fans and board is probably better than it’s ever been unfortunately the fact is the whole membership scheme kind of insulates the club in the event of any trouble at a game and the fall out from the Wembley pitch invasion is probably still fresh in their minds.

There is a precedent though, last season between Xmas and New year we played at Coventry and for some reason there was quite a bit of pressure on social media for the club to relax the members only rule for away games and the club in conjunction with Coventry agreed to make it POTD. The result was well over a thousand fans travelled to the West Midlands on a weeknight to support the team with quite a few, including myself, deciding to go at the last minute.

I’m not saying relaxing the members only scheme would have a dramatic effect overnight but it would make going to away games a bit more accessible for many, especially after we’ve had a run of decent results. There will always be a few occasions every season where you could understand why they would only sell to STs and members but at the moment it’s obvious by looking at that graph that years is OTT restrictions have severely impacted our support. The question is whether the club care enough to do something about it.
the club are quite happy to have pay on the day at the den for away fans maybe they should do more then consider the same for our fans , we are still be tarred by the brush wielded years ago

Yep bit surprised more have not mentioned this , deft a factor for some
Had a nose on the Sheffield site and they have the same graph ref to fans on there
A few comments like this even from their fans stating this

Millwall was the big surprise for me. Wonder why they travel so poorly?
Rightly or wrongly they're generally treated like shit by most clubs/police when away which will easily put off many "moderate" fans, and the average trip length for them is pretty large, half the league involves them going north of Stafford, Cardiff/Swansea aren't exactly short trips from London either. They also seem to have had quite a number of away games midweek which will not help

Plus from other fans there is a bit of done that got the t shirt
some just dont find it that great anymore harder to just walk about towns, Allocated pubs boring
Expense

Also lets be honest for lots of northern fans its a big deal coming to London to get away from the shitholes they come from .... ha
US going to the delights of Rotherham. Barnsley, Bradford Really what delights
Also heard a few say they have done all the grounds
Some hate long train Journeys , some not so keen on long car Journeys
its all sorts

Tbh i dont read too much into it these stats
fair play to those who go al aways and all that, tbh dont know how some do it especially with kids
I must have been to 98 per cent of the grounds now incl those no longer in the football League

Also booking up via online like going to the Theatre and having to decide other than on the day like years ago
This points system and many other things

Like others i am sure have heard a few times Cant be fked with it all fk that fking about ha

Exactly. There'll always be fans of northern clubs living in London, but there ain't hundreds of us based in fucking Barnsley or Blackburn etc.
