I remember when a wing was a wing. Now it is a channel.

Is that what a channel is, the wing? I had assumed it was the old inside right or left 'channel'.

"He's a good utility player". Used to mean he'd come on as the (one and only) substitute and play pretty much anywhere where someone needed a rest. Usually not particularly good at anything apart from short passes sideways or backwards.
