Lovelace

Haven’t we had players that were terrific goal scorers in the youth team in the past, and didn’t make it in the first team. And this is scotlands reserve and youth sides he is playing against.

Even Rangers first team can put 4 past Arbroath and 5 past Morton but when they come across an half decent team in Europe that can play football they fail miserably. So their youth team must be playing some really poor teams and Linda’s boy can score at will. The big test will be if he can step up and score a hatful of goals at first team level. And even if he did that would be no guarantee that he could score goals at our level. How many players look absolute world beaters north of the border and they come south and play for us and fire on blanks every game. Who was the CF who played for us ten years ago or so and was a pile of brown stuff. Was it Crawford? Couldn’t hit a barn door from ten yards! Two exceptions that comes to mind were Dalgleish and Denis Law but there weren’t many!

Yeah, Marquis springs to mind in recent times. Also, that boy that scored for fun in the youth set up when we were in league one under KJ. Amoo plus that £1m striker that went to Liverpool who was probably about 28 years old.

Charlie Hearn, Alfie pavey and the infamous cherno samba, all was touted as next best thing and nothing. Problem is for every one that got away like eze there is 100 that don’t.

my real surprise currently is both Abdul Malik and nana boetong were touted as being first time same as Lovelace, but both not had look in since. Hmm.

Gary Alexanders son is another! He was smashing it for the U21's and out of nowhere just released???

I thought he'd emulate his Dad's career with us tbh. Shame it was just more of a hope than a reality.

Think he is playing for Welling United now, so suppose that's all that needs to be said.

Shame though as I'd love 'Wall to produce more talented players who we can cherish at the time and follow after their time with us.

With all the bother he went through, what are the odds Abdul Abdulmalik will end up following the same path as others mentioned above?

Alfie Pavey is 28 next week and found his level in the National league South, George Alexander is 22 in a couple of weeks and is on loan from Bromley at Slough at the same level.
Lovelace was playing in the Scottish lowland league last season which looks like a similar if not lower standard than NLS.

Stuart Pearce mentioned on the radio a few months ago it took an experienced youth coach to explain why he was working with the kids, it wasn't to bring them through to the first team but give them the best chance to be able to make a living from the game, if they made the first team then great but if they don't but still make it elsewhere then he has done his job.

Of course in 2022 (last year 🧐) Rangers got to the Europa League Final getting beat on penalties with the only penalty missed by that mercenary bastard Aaron Ramsey. We beat Dortmond, Braga, Leipzig and Red Star on the way. This year we’ve beat Betis. It’s clear that’s our level due to financial restraints (ie tuppenny hapenny TV deal) and in the CL we’re onto a hiding.
I’ve been disappointed that Lovelace hasn’t had a start yet, the truth being the team are playing poor stuff in the League just now and the manager can’t afford to take risks by playing untested boys.
