THE MIGHTY LIONS!

An excellent performance with discipline, control and a good winner from a surprising source.

It was an even start. They had a lot of possession and we were happy to concede space but everybody stuck to their task and got their foot in. We almost took an early lead. Tom pressured their CB who conceded a corner. It found its way to a throw in on the far side which Flem launched into their box. It bounced and bobbled and fell to Tom 6 yards out but he just knocked it wide. There a long spell of play where they held on to the ball, moved it well but provided no threat. We got our foot in and tried very hard to fashion a chance but that did not come until the 32nd minute. Flem hit a goal bound shot and the defensive header found Longman but his cross went over the top. They tried to get back into it but made little headway until coming up to half time when we made a break on the right with Longman. His jink inside the box was followed by a shot at the keeper and the half ended goalless. We had the better of it.

We just picked up from where we had left off and within ten minutes had made another chance. A good move down the left was picked up buy a marauding Danny but his shot was pushed for a corner. The ensuing header was nodded over by Flem. It was time for fresh legs. Off went a crocked Leonard and Esse for Watmore and BNC. A minute later a corner with a header saved from Cooper. A couple of minutes later a good cross field ball found Danny whose shot was saved. A good move found Tom who moved it on to Watmore and then to Longman whose shot was saved. The ensuing corner came to nothing.
Then came the turning point of the game. Cooper tangled with their attacker in the box and it was a pen. Shark dived well to his right to save the kick. We pressed on and a few minutes later got the winner. Danny broke down the left, cut it back and there was Casper to poke it home for 1-0. It was no more than we deserved. Then more fresh legs with Honeyman and Sav on for Tom and Billy with Watmore going up top. They were getting desperate and Yates threw a punch at Tango, who retaliated and both got a red card. Hutch came on for Flem who gave a farewell clap to the Millwall fans.
We saw out the last few minutes with no drama and walked off with a smile on our faces and a spring in our step.

Shark played well and made a great save from their penalty. Leonard was solid, Tango and Cooper played well but MOM goes to Danny for a great performance and some marauding runs down the left, one of which set up the goal. Billy was busy and Casper looked class with a good winning goal. Esse had his moments but had two or three blips where he gave the ball away. Longman looked a threat all afternoon and Flem had his moments on what looked to be his swan song. Tom was busy and a real thorn in their side. Watmore had a decent half and so did BNC including a great run down the right late on. Save and Honeyman bottled it up for the last fifteen and Hutch helped out for the last five minutes.

A decent win, a clean sheet, five wins on the spin and 13th in the final table. What a great win. Hats off to Neil and the boys for a sensational end to the season. COYL!

Thanks for all your just backs.

Apparently Leonard was sick but still played

” .... he only slept for an hour before the game".

That used to be my approach to Sunday morning football😁
