Decent game a good second half performance and a fair result.
We got off to an aggressive start with two fouls in the first two minutes but their free kicks came to nothing. There was some decent energy in the middle with Casper having a good game. He was always available for that short pass from the back four and he got things moving from there. Joe had a good start and made a couple of good forward runs. From his second run he got crocked by their midfielder and took the free kick himself. He floated the ball across to the far side of the box and somehow it found its way to the back post where Watmore was lurking. It was a tight angle but he squeezed it goalwards and it hit the keeper and went over the line. It was slightly against the run of play but to be one up with less than ten minutes gone was a luxury we were not going to complain about.
It took them ten minutes or so to get back into their stride. They pushed the ball around nicely but never really created a threat. The left winger looked lively and the 20 up front was giving Cooper a run for his money. They kept pushing the ball wide left but it never created a threat. It was time for something new. They spotted Danny slightly asleep, hit a long ball into the inside left position here their bloke was free. He took it in his stride, knocked it forward ten yards and hit it cleanly past Bart for 1-1. We were a little shocked and tried to get back to being compact and pressing. We were good for about ten minutes and then they hit us again. I think it was Danny who hit a firm cross field pass to Bart but it was misplaced. Their right winger was on it in a flash, squared it across the box and their midfield hit it firmly into the back of the net for 1-2. We huffed and puffed and never really got back into it before half time. There had to be changes of personnel and tactics second half.
Sure enough GR had the same ideas and off went Danny and Watmore and on came BNC and Bradshaw. we went to a back five with Leonard slotting back from his earlier midfield role with Cuffy and Joe wide. We had more energy on the flanks and we looked so much better going forward. It wasn’t long before we made it count. There was some good forward movement, the ball went out to Joe on the left, he cut in, feigned to shoot and then did pull the trigger and the ball went right across the goal and in by the post. We deserved it. Shortly after Rab went off and was clearly crocked and on came Emakhu. He played central which is not his best position but he was energetic and put them under pressure. They had a lot less of the ball and I don’t think Bart had a shot second half. We pushed and pressed but couldn’t make a decent chance until the death. Saville and then Esse came on for Flem and Campbell and Esse set Emakhu up with a great chance from the edge of the box but he skied it. And it ended all square at 2-2.
Bart played well and stood little chance with either of their goals. Danny did not have his best of games and deserved to be taken off second half. Leonard had his normal dependable game and looked better in defence than midfield. Wes was solid but Cooper had his work cut out with their 20. Campbell was hit and miss but MOM was Casper with an energetic and intelligent performance.Flem had his moments, Watmore took his goal well and Rab had his moments. Emakhu was quick but should have made more of his golden chance at the death. Bradshaw was busy and so was Sac. Esse had some moments and Cuffy had some energetic runs down the right. It was a decent game and a draw was a fair result except was should have nicked it at the death. That’s football!
