Alex Mitchell

It was a cup game, maybe the lower leagues don't take The FA Cup seriously anymore and he was just rested?

:grinning:

Well with Ballard injured and Pearce not really in the picture, it would make sense to bring him back.

The no cup tie is probably the good reason. I have posted before that we only have three fit centre halves if you don’t include Pearce who is really only a bench warmer and a fire engine you use in dire emergencies. If either Murray, Cooper or Hutch was to get injured between now and early January then we could play Pearce in their place. You would also need a player on the bench if any of them got injured mid game and then there would be a need for Mitchell. GR did point out that Evans could play central defence but that would make one less you could pick in midfield.
The other option, and one that could be more appealing is Muller who is on loan at St Johnstone. GR talked of him last season as a promising lad who could play in a back three but not as one of two central defenders in a back four. In truth I think that GR is trying to keep all his options open.

According to Rich Cawley of the SLP we second guessed correctly about why we didn’t sanction Alex Mitchell to play for Orient in the Cup.

The article goes on to say that at this stage we are not planning to recall the lad in January but if injuries mount up then we may need to do just that.
