Just Back v Canaries

A really cracking game of football which we won with a little bit to spare.

It began fairly evenly but they looked a little bit arrogant and strolled around as if it was just a matter of time. We had other ideas. This was not the same high press like QPR but a much more measured approach with closing down the angles and not really giving them much space in our half. Although they had plenty of the ball they really didn’t do too much with it and our goal was not really threatened. And then we struck, slightly against the run of play. A good ball down the line to Emakhu and then to BNC set up the goal. A good long and low cross into the box was met by Bradshaw inside the six yard box and he poked it in. A real poachers goal. They were deflated and tried very hard to get back into it but we stood firm. They were ponderous in their approach play and found us difficult to break down. We really should have scored a second before the break. A great cross found Flem unmarked on the left of their box and he hit his shot really firmly to the keepers left but he made a good save. The half ended with our noses in front.

Joe must have been delighted with our first half display but he knew they would come at us second half. And he was right. He changed the formation by bringing BNC into a back five, played four in the middle with Bradshaw as the loan striker. The pushed and pressed but really created little threat. The game boiled over in the 63rd minute. Barnes flattened Cooper in our box….no mean feat…and was punching him whilst he was flat on the ground. The Millwall players were incensed and the ref only booked him although a red card seemed the obvious decision. Their man took Barnse off soon after knowing that it would take much for him to get a second yellow. They huffed and puffed and it was clear we needed fresh legs. Off came Emakhu and Flem and on came Watmore and Longman. The latter had a decent shot when he cut in from the right but the keeper made a good save to keep it out. Then we were down to ten. Sav made a rash challenge in the centre circle and the ref sent him off. Tempers on the field we’re boiling and they were similar in the stadium. A real siege mentality gripped the crowd for the remaining 15 minutes and there was a major threat at the death with a free kick which sailed wide. It was real case of forget the football and bring on the Christians but we saw it out and Rockin’ All Over the World rang out loud and proud.

Shark had little to do but did it well. Leonard was immense with some great tackles and a never say die spirit. Hutch looked his commanding self, Cooper was solid and Murray Mr Reliable. Sav was energetic and driven and Honeyman got MOM with an energetic performance but it could have gone to others. Flem had some decent moments, as did Emakhu and Tom ran himself into the ground and took his goal well. Watmore looked energetic and so did Longman but Nisbet didn’t do too much in the last 13 minutes.

The Joe revolution is beginning to build up some steam. Seven points from the last nine, three clean sheets on the bounce, three points tonight and now up to sixteenth. A cracking win against a fancied team who didn’t look nothing special. Or was it that we made them look fairly ordinary? Who cares. COYL

Good account Silver, I'm only just back after a couple of days in town and whilst Beethoven's Ninth at the Barbican was good it didn't compare to Bradshaw's Fourth at the Den, great to hear the Den back to normal.
