Millwall have confirmed that young defender Paul Rooney has left the club on a permanent deal for Colchester United and we are linked with a move for Derby defender Jason Shackell.

20 year old defender Rooney heads out to League Two side Colchester United on a permanent deal. Having joined us from Bohemians back in 2016, he departs having made one first team appearances when he took in the three one victory over Luton in the EFL Trophy as a substitute that year.

The BBC are also one of many to report that we are in talks with Derby County over a loan deal for their defender Jason Shackell.

It’s believed he held talks with manager Neil Harris earlier in the week as the 34 year old has fallen out of favour at the club following the appointment of Gary Rowatt.

He only has six months left on his deal and across two spells at Pride Park he has made 111 appearances, but he’s not played for the first team since February 2017, so it could be an answer that suits all parties and gives him the chance to impress for a short term deal come next summer.
