Winger Martyn Woolford has said he’s happy Millwall have the underdog tag again this season and whilst he feels the Championship is getting tougher with each and every passing year, he feels Millwall are well capable of surprising a few people this season.
With us now going into the game against Nottingham Forest looking to make up for the three two loss to Reading in midweek, Woolford explained to the official site.
‘There’s some really big clubs in the League and a lot of them are spending good money. It’s a tough league and the standard is getting better every year. We want to compete with the top teams and I think we’re showing that we can do that.’
With Millwall now on a run of consecutive defeats for the first time this season, Woolford knows we have to draw a line under that but the players have confidence and belief in themselves because for him we have come a ‘long way in a relatively short period of time’ but in many ways it suits to remain the underdog as it keeps the pressure on our opponents and should just help us to play our own game and improve further without much of a spotlight on us in terms of expectations.
‘We’re happy to remain the underdog. People don’t seem to be giving us a chance which is fine because it allows us to focus on getting results without that pressure.’
