Millwall caretaker boss Willie Donachie admitted he had two reasons to be cheerful on Saturday night.

Donachie’s side extended their unbeaten run since he replaced Nigel Spackman to three matches with a fine 2-1 victory at Carlisle.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, former Scotland international Donachie was delighted to hear that his country had pulled off an even more unlikely result by beating France 1-0 at Hampden Park.

Donachie said: ‘The players worked very hard for this result and we got our little bit of luck as well.

‘With Scotland beating France too it has been a pretty good day.’

Donachie will be starting to believe he can land the job on a permanent basis now and he was quick to pay tribute to the 500 Lions fans who made the long trip north.

He added: ‘It was terrific to see so many of them all the way up here and the support they gave the team was magnificent.’
