Skipper Tony Craig has praised the ‘strength’ and ‘character’ of the Millwall team this year, describing Wembley as a ‘place for winners’.
As we head towards the League One Play Off Final against Bradford City at the national stadium on May 20, Craig knew that the Semi Final tie against Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park had seen the players dig deep in their performance and he backed ‘a fantastic group of lads’ to dig deep once more at Wembley and secure our promotion this year.
Speaking to the official site in his midweek interview, Craig explained.
‘It was a hard game from the first minute to the last. We’re so grateful and thankful that we got over the line. It was important, firstly, not to lose the home leg. We performed very well and that allowed us to go Glanford Park with confidence. I thought we were the better team throughout. They caught us with a sucker punch to open the scoring, but we kept calm and stuck to the gameplan and tactics.’
With Craig providing the cross for Steve Morison’s equaliser, he went on to say that the timing of that had been key to our success given we trailed.
‘The equalising goal just before half-time was important. Steve has had an excellent season, popping up with important goals – and he’s done it again. It was nice to be involved in the goal with an assist, but the most important thing is that we got through the game and that we can now look forward to another visit to Wembley.’
Adding.
‘We had to dig deep in the last six or seven minutes, but that showed the strength and character among the ranks. We’re all in it together.’
Turning eyes to Wembley and Bradford City, Craig went on to say.
‘There’s a fantastic group of lads here. We know that Bradford City are a very good side. We’ve had two tough games and two draws against them already this season. I’m very privileged to have played at Wembley many times – it’s a great occasion for me, my family and everyone. But, it’s a place for winners.’
