Manager Ian Holloway has said that defender Byron Webster is now reaping the rewards of biding his time for first team football at the club.
The summer signing had had to wait until September before making his first league start, and was then substituted early in the game against Reading with us two nil down as Holloway changed things tactically but the 27 year old has now started the last three games and been impressive as Millwall picked up two consecutive clean sheets.
Speaking to the official site the gaffer explained.
‘I brought him off after 15 or 20 minutes at Reading and he didn’t fall out with me, he understood that tactically I needed to bring Carlos Edwards back. He has waiting his time and kept a good attitude about himself, and has put everything into training just like a good pro should do. He is reaping the rewards now because it going to be a long and hard season. You have to wait for your chance and take it when you do play.’
Holloway goes on to say with Danny Shittu returning to fitness and telling him ‘he’s ready’ every time he sees him, and with Mark Beevers waiting or a shot again we really do have good competition at the back and effectively now it’s Webster’s shirt to lose at this moment in time – but what also pleases him is the team understand when he makes changes so he knows he has options.
