Millwall manager Neil Harris has described the decision of the Football Association’s disciplinary panel to not rescind Lee Gregory’s red card as a ‘disgrace’.
With Gregory having seen red for a tackle on Josh Scowen in the midweek two all draw with Queens Park Rangers, with the card being a straight red the striker was facing a three match ban and the club believed they had good reasons to appeal, and they did just that.
Apparently those reasons weren’t good enough as the panel upheld the red card and that left our gaffer fuming.
Speaking to Harris’ anger at the decision was clear to see as all he wants is for Millwall to get a fair crack of the whip when compared to other clubs in the game.
‘It is disgraceful. We can`t keep being on the end of bad decisions and I`ve told the powers that be that I won`t be quiet on it if I feel it is wrong. I`ll be public on it. The evidence is there to be seen – we have got to be treated the same as every other club in the division.’
Harris continued on to say.
‘Once again we have been dealt a really bad hand by the officials and the FA. It is a disgrace of a decision that a panel, who have experience on these matters, did not overturn it. Against Bristol City we had one of our players punched in the face and that hasn`t been reviewed.’
He did however concede that Millwall weren’t 100% convinced the card would be overturned, but when compared to other incidents and the fact that what the referee explained his decision to be, compared to what was apparently in the report, didn’t match – it left him incensed.
‘We didn`t think Lee`s would 100 per cent to get overturned but we had a very good case. The referee`s decision and what he told Lee at the time doesn`t add up to what the referee put in his report. We thought that misinformation would help us, coupled with the fact that it was never a red card when compared to other tackles in the game.’
Gregory will of course miss the next two matches, having already served a one game ban against Leeds United.
