Leaders Scunthorpe had to settle for a point against Northampton (who remain in a play-off place) in a one-all draw at Glanford Park with this enough to keep the Iron top.
But Bradford’s two-nil win over Shrewsbury took the Bantams to within a point of the League 1 leaders to consolidate second place whereas the Shrews dropped down to second-bottom with only Coventry (who didn’t play) below them.
Having lost the opening match to kick-off the weekend Bury missed the chance to keep in touch with the top two with Peterborough’s three-one win moving Posh to within touching distance of a play-off place.
A poor run of form was arrested by Bolton with a one-nil win at Swindon putting the Trotters up to fourth with the Robins remaining above the relegation zone on goal-difference following this defeat at the County Ground.
Southend though remain in the bottom four and dropped to 22nd, below Oldham who won two-one at Gillingham, after a three-nil defeat at Rochdale with this win enough to move Dale into a play-off place.
Wimbledon moved further away from trouble with an impressive three-one win at Oxford on Sunday with MK Dons’ disappointing start to life back in League 1 continuing with a home defeat against Port Vale, that one-nil win for Vale taking them into the play-offs and up to fourth.
