Bristol Rovers, having secured back-to-back promotions from non-league into League 1 continue to do well enough at this level with a two-one home win against Port Vale with MK Dons, who are another side who weren’t at this level last season (as they were in the Championship), continuing their bid to return to the second tier of English Football at the first attempt with a four-one win at Fleetwood.

Ahead of the season Coventry would have been a highly favoured side but the Sky Blues have struggled early on with yet another defeat suffered when Gillingham saw them off at Priestfield two-one.

The move from League 2 to League 1 (and change of boss) hasn’t done Northampton any harm with them thumping Southend (who had beaten Millwall for a first win last weekend) four-nil at Sixfields with the Lions beaten for a second match running when Rochdale went away from the Den with a three-two win.

Leaders Scunthorpe, having been held at Glanford Park by Charlton in midweek had to settle for another point when Sheffield United’s unbeaten run was extended but a fifth successive win was possible but the Blades will be happy enough with a two-two draw.
