The Championship season continued with the latest round of games played during midweek.

Aston Villa’s disappointing start to the campaign continued when they were held to a goalless draw with Middlesbrough at Villa Park, leaving Villa with just seven points from as many games.

Leeds’ fourth successive win, when they overcame Birmingham – who dropped into the bottom three with a fourth defeat in a row – was enough to take them to the top of the Championship table.

It would happen eventually and Cardiff’s first defeat of the season came when the Bluebirds, then-leaders, were heavily beaten at Preston – who moved up to fifth a place ahead of Sheffield Wednesday after they beat Brentford, leaving the Bees second-bottom and without a win.

Sunderland’s poor start continued at the Stadium of Light when they were beaten for a fourth game running – Forest ended a run of successive defeats with a first win in three.

A six goal thriller saw the points shared at Molineux as Wolves and Bristol City drew 3-3. Meanwhile, Sheffield United’s fourth win in succession was enough to lift the Blades up to third as they took their League One winning momentum forward.

Here’s a round up of the Championship results with one game to take place.
