Midfielder Ed Upson has said that he can’t wait for 2014-15 to get started because he’s very confident that it will prove to be a good year for Millwall.

The 24 year old scored on the opening day of the season, against us, for Yeovil Town and he told the official site that his aim now was to hopefully score for us and help us to three points so we can kick off the new season in style.

‘Every game in the Championship is a massive one so you look forward to all of them. It would be nice to be at home for the first game, and I probably owe the fans after what happened last season. I would love to do that by scoring my first for the club.’

Upson goes on to say that personally he doesn’t really care who we open the season against, because at the end of the day we will be playing each team twice, so the order isn’t really important, what matters is getting going straight away and hopefully picking up a good result.

‘Personally I’m very confident we can have a good year. We ended last season in great form, so let’s try and carry that over.’

As for the planned training camp in Portugal, Upson says the main benefit of coming away from home is the players get to spend some real time with each other, and that helps bonding and team spirit, because the workload and sessions don’t change so the main benefit is always ‘being together’ and not going home.

Especially as we’ll be welcoming new players to the group, it helps everybody really adjust and get on board.
