Quiet news day for all things Den related, but there are a few transfer rumours continuing to cycle through the media with it known manager Ian Holloway is determined to push through a change of the guard at the club to get our season up and running properly in 2015.
On loan Southampton defender Jos Hooiveld could be looking for a way out of Carrow Road, and we are being linked with him.
The 31 year old moved to Norwich City at the beginning of the season on a season long loan spell from Southampton, and it was with a view to a permanent move because he’s out of contract at St Mary’s in the summer.
However the spell hasn’t gone that well for him and he has only made six appearances for the club, and the last of those came back in late November when they drew three all with Brighton and Hove Albion.
It’s being said that either his spell with Norwich will be cut short this January to enable the move to happen, or there might be some three way deal where we take over a part of his wages, and Norwich save a bit in the process considering he is out of their plans.
He hasn’t played for Southampton this season, so he is entitled to a spell at another club without regulations kicking in, but the latter suggestion is definitely a long way around just terminating the loan early presuming that’s possible.
Vital Norwich describe him as ‘almost forgotten’ at the club but state ‘he’s never let anyone down here’ and he was an instrumental part of Southampton’s rise to the Premier League, and did take in some games at that level.
It’s also being reported that we have taken Maidstone academy defender Alfie Kitt on trial.
Rivals Charlton were said to be interested in taking the player on as well to have a look at him, but the 17 year old chose us.
It’s said he’s lined up to play in an under 18’s game on Saturday for us, as he looks to secure a scholarship arrangement or even maybe a one year professional deal if he impresses manager Ian Holloway and our coaching staff.
News at Den are also linking us with Crystal Palace midfielder Stuart O’Keefe.
Apparently we are battling with Cardiff City for the midfielder who knows Ian Holloway well from his spell at Selhurst Park where the combative midfielder was part of his first team.
The 23 year old played in nine of Palace’s 13 wins last seasons, but has only figured three times so far this campaign and has spent time out on loan with Blackpool this season.
It’s also expected that the loan deal taking Matthew Briggs to Colchester United will be confirmed shortly.
