Youngster Ben Thompson has declared himself ‘raring to go’ as Millwall players return to pre season training this Friday.

With disappointment at the end of the 2015/16 campaign as Play Off promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking proved to be a step too far, there are certainly reasons to be hopeful going into this campaign with how the side finally gelled, and 20 year old Thompson is on board with that, as well as hoping to see himself progress more in the coming year.

With 36 appearances to his name last season, seeing a third place Player of the Year finish but winner of Goal of the Season, he told the official site that his only aim was to kick on further this season, and hopefully starting with the opening day game against Oldham Athletic on August 6, play his part in helping Millwall itself go one stage further this campaign.

‘It’s been a good break. I played more games than I ever had last year and I was knackered towards the end of the season, but I’m raring to go again now. The result at Wembley didn’t go our way but we can improve on that and hopefully this coming campaign will be the time for it.’

After a slow start last year, the aim this time round is obviously a quicker start to the season.

‘Last year we had a slow start so this time around we need to continue the momentum we generated with our form in the last few months of the season. We were dominating teams, playing good football, and if we can pick up from that then it could be a successful season. We’re all looking forward to getting back into training and focusing on that first fixture.’
