Millwall have today completed the signing of striker Steve Morison, and he comes in for his third spell at The Den.
The 31 year old joins us for an undisclosed fee from Leeds United.
Having played for us between 2009 and 2011 and then coming in on a loan spell during the 2013-14 season, he returns with a Millwall record of 137 appearances and 48 goals.
Speaking to the official site following his return, manager Neil Harris said it was a no brainer for him to bring our former player back, especially given his passion to return to us.
Morison has agreed a 12 month contract initially and goes straight into contention for the League One opener against Shrewsbury Town this weekend.
‘We have had to be very patient to get one of our main transfer targets over the summer. To get it completed before the season starts is excellent and that is a result of a lot of support from the chairman. Ultimately, though, it was Steve’s desire to come back to Millwall which was the biggest thing of all. This is where he has played his best football and this is where he finds the fire in his belly to perform. He is desperate to start scoring goals for Millwall again.’
Having got the striker he was after, he will now compete with Lee Gregory and John Marquis initially for a starting berth this weekend and Harris was now confident, that especially when others were fully fit, we had the required options and alternatives up front for the coming year.
‘I think the combination of strikers that we’ve got will bring the best out of Steve. He knows what is demanded of him whenever he pulls on a Millwall shirt. After being away from the club for a few years he has that hunger to return and do well. Steve is here for this season but he wants to stay at the club long-term. He is fit and has had an excellent pre-season. Steve is available for Saturday, as are Lee and John. Everyone is raring to go and it certainly gives me food for thought for the weekend.’
With Aiden O’Brien due for a return in a few weeks and Jamie Philpot making good daily progress himself at the minute, Harris is hoping that competition will be perfect now.
