Defender Jack Smith has held his hand up following the two all draw against Burnley and admitted he should’ve done better when it came to defending their equaliser on the day.

As we know, Millwall took a shock two goal lead, before allowing Burnley to grab one back a minute after our second. They obviously went on to grab the leveller on 55 minutes when the ball went in off Shane Lowry, but Smith has told the press that he feels he was equally at fault for the defensive mix up that led to the own goal because he allowed their player to get the better of him before striking the ball.

‘I’ve held my hands up, as I could have done a bit better, but Kightly’s a good player. He got the better of me once in the game and luckily for them they’ve scored from it.’

Smith goes onto say that Lowry was unfortunate because he didn’t really know where he was and there wasn’t a lot he could’ve done when trying to get the block in. Unfortunately it’s one of those things where sometimes they go flying out, but in this case it hit him and bobbled in.

‘It looked like it was going five or so yards wide, so it was a bit disappointing.’

One thing that did please Smith given our recent improvements and ability to see games out was that he adds once they got the leveller it felt like it was all them for 15 minutes, hitting the post, making the plays, attacking the box and we really had to dig in and digging in is now something that is really becoming a strength for us again, adding that it was very unlucky he felt that having seen that period out and chances came our way again, that we couldn’t just sneak the third for the win that they all felt we deserved on the day.

Like others have admitted, our home form in the last 18 months hasn’t been what anybody would want it to be, but he feels that is slowly being addressed now with the run that we are on, and whilst it’s not perfect because we aren’t on a winning streak, there are certainly plenty of positives that the team are taking from home showings now as we are really developing a resilience again, but obviously we need to now keep building on that so it improves further.
