Manager Neil Harris has said he’s looking for a different balance in the Millwall squad moving forward into our 2015-16 League One campaign.
Speaking to the official site about his plans for the summer with knowledge that 18 players have been released – more on that shortly – Harris explained that he wanted more options up front but he wanted a ‘fresh impetus’ into the club but that won’t be by overloading on numbers.
‘What is important is that we have a much smaller squad than we had this year. It’s no secret that we need to recruit a centre-forward – definitely one if not two – to get more goals in the team. But at the other end of the pitch we have conceded far too many also so we have to consider that all over the park we need new players, fresh impetus and maybe a different balance in the squad. We are looking for quality and not quantity.’
Harris went on to say that it’s about getting the right mix both in terms of character but also in terms of experience, because he wants the youngsters next year to be able to lean on the seniors so we really give the youngsters a good pathway into the first team.
‘It’s about getting the mix right between the youngsters and experience. You need leaders – good, experienced pro’s to lead the young players and help them develop.’
Clearly there is going to be a more youthful and develop our own outlook in the future.
