Young midfielder Jack Powell has said he was delighted to get his first Championship 90 minutes under his belt in the game against Ipswich Town at the weekend, but he would’ve been even happier had we been able to take a better result out of the game.
Speaking to the official site he explained that he hoped he had done enough during the game to justify manager Ian Holloway giving the start again when we face Reading next.
Having made his debut in the game against Blackpool back in September, the soon to be 21 year old made two subsequent appearances after that, but Ipswich was his return to first team duties as the gaffer continues looking for the formula and line up that turns our season around.
‘Personally I was pleased to be back involved and pleased to get my first 90 minutes in the league. I obviously played against Blackpool but came off with ten to go and then came off at half time in a couple of other games. Although we lost on Saturday, there were a few more positives and hopefully we showed that there is some optimism, that we’re on our way forward again and that we can pick up a result sooner rather than later.’
With a longer gap between the two fixtures, Powell says that with new arrivals coming in and still needed to click, the fact we have longer on the training pitch could be a bonus for us at this stage because it gives everyone a few extra days to get to know each other and gives the manager longer to drill the new players in what he wanted from them.
‘It’s a bit different because we have got nine days now to prepare for our next game against Reading. But it gives us a bit more time to gel with the new players.’
With few training sessions under the new arrivals belts, Powell says that the overall performance against Ipswich was a positive, because they can only be better when understandings form and he felt the newbies did have a positive impact for us.
