Striker Scott McDonald has said he’s not alone at the club in being delighted with the positive start that we’ve made to the 2014-15 season.
Speaking to the official site following the game against Blackpool last weekend where McDonald registered his first goal of the campaign, helping us to three points and a return of ten from an available 15, he explained that competition was really helping to drive the players to good performances but he still feels we have a lot of improvement left to make.
‘We’ve got a great nucleus with so many good players coming back, you really are on your toes all the time having to perform otherwise you’re out of the team. There’s so much competition for places all around and it’s very healthy for the club. I’m enjoying being part of it.’
Being a regular in manager Ian Holloway’s plans so far this campaign, McDonald goes on to say that it’s all any player wants really – they want good pitch time because it helps them into form, feel confident and really fully fit and he certainly feels he getting the benefits of that so far.
With Holloway making no secret himself that we are still a work in progress, the 31 year old added that in training the gaffer is always encouraging them to try something different, try something new and be confident enough to take a risk on something as well as really becoming natural with his preferred style of play and what he wants from them.
‘It’s going to take time to implement it as well as we can but it’s all positive. We could do things this year but it’s one step at a time. We will have two good weeks of training now and prepare for the next game.’
