Well he could’ve set a lot more, but Steve Lomas has described tonight’s showing against Birmingham City – especially with all the record talk earlier – as just simply poor.

The biggest disappointment was blowing our three match winning streak, especially by such a large margin.

Birmingham were two nil ahead at the break, and added a further two in the second half and it really could’ve been more such was the inept performance put in on the night, but thankfully some blushes were saved by David Forde saving the Jesse Lingard penalty.

To say the manager was disappointed at the final whistle and when he spoke to the official site would be an understatement.

‘We knew that Birmingham were a high energy team and that we to start quickly. But we didn’t, and it was a very poor showing from us. You can’t just turn it on, you have to be at 100% if you’re to get results. I can accept losing a game if you have a real go, but that wasn’t the case tonight, and for that reason the performance was unacceptable.’

It’s not much of a positive but you have to hope that maybe this was just a blip given our recent performance levels and the results we have pulled out of the bag, but certainly old concerns certainly came to the fore over 90 minutes.

Lomas adds that he’s now in the position of needing to talk to the team in the way he did after the Derby game, and he was certainly not expecting to do that again this season, but if we get the same kind of response then maybe it’ll serve a purpose the players really learn from.

Initial new photos for the season are in now thanks to the folks behind the scenes. I’m not sure an image of Lomas for tonight could be more appropriate. Now I don’t lip read but….
