The global credit crunch is coming to a club near you and very soon. By the start of next season, thousands of football players will have their contracts renegotiated or face being out of a job.

League football clubs outside of the top flight are finally fed up of paying 80% of their income to a work force who generally don’t have enough skill to butter a slice of toast, let alone defend a one nil lead.

The news comes after a meeting of cub chairmen at the Football League over the weekend, Millwall, Peterborough and West brom are amongst those calling for immediate reviews of wage spending. A vote was cast and 85% are in favour of taking action.

Wages have spiralled out of control in the last decade. Player’s income does not reflect that of the fans who watch them and increasingly the standard of an average football match is in decline compared to that of rising player costs.

Fans have heralded the decision as an amazing pull back from the brink of farce, and now millions of football fans hope their match day experience will get cheaper, as high energy prices, mortgage rates, food prices and travel costs bite into salaries harder than ever before, football and following your team has been a luxury many can ill afford these days.

What an amazing announcement, money falling out of football and about time too.
