Manager Steve Lomas has talked about his desire to secure the services of striker Martyn Waghorn on a permanent deal in the January window.
Waghorn initially moved to us last month on a 93 day loan deal after falling out of Leicester manager Nigel Pearson’s plans and has already found the net twice for us.
Steve Lomas has described the 23 year old as being a ‘breath of fresh air’ and said he’d like nothing more than to keep him at the club long term.
Speaking to the South London Press, the gaffer explained.
‘Hopefully we can get Waggy signed up and then he can stay. I feel he can really kick on by playing regularly with us.’
Lomas says that Waghorn has already admitted he’s enjoying life at the club and that bodes well for him fort he future as the fans have already seen what he’s about, and he’s got a good experience of The Den now, and he brought him in on loan with one eye to the future anyway because he’s wants to grow the team with players of the right age who have a long shelf life for us.
Lomas says that he’s done well so far since coming to the club but he feels there is certainly a lot more to come from him, especially as he’s still finding his proper fitness and sharpness having hardly played over the last season and a half for the Midlands club.
The fact he’s a pretty versatile player is also a bonus for Lomas as it gives him more options during the 90 minutes to shake things up.
If rumours are to be believed, Blackburn, Barnsley and Wolves will also be vying for his signature as he is out of contract in the summer and can begin talks with prospective clubs in January.
