Having made his full Championship bow against Charlton and picking up the official man of the match award, Fred Onyedinma was quick to praise the level of support he received from the fans.

The 17 year old had already won glowing support from the gaffer Ian Holloway who described him as a player who ‘has got everything’ and really tipped him for a bright future as long as he keeps his feet on the ground and keeps working hard, and the player himself told the official site following the game.

‘It was a really important game and I’m just delighted that I did alright. I want to thank the fans for supporting me and all the players too, who really made me feel welcome and comfortable. I did’t feel very nervous and when I came out, I was feeling more confident, probably because of the fans. They were great.’

Onyedinma could’ve had an even better full debut, going close with a chance that could well have been the difference between the sides with how the game played out, and he admitted himself it ‘wasn’t that far off but I should’ve scored. Next time I will take my chances.’

We all hope that will happen as well, but he’s certainly one to watch for the future and he’ll be hoping that man of the match award gives him a few more starts now to add to that one and the two substitute appearances he has made against Southend and Blackpool so far this season.
