Manager Neil Harris has said he has renewed confidence that youngster Fred Onyedinma will now stay at Millwall ahead of the Championship 2017/18 campaign.
Speaking to the official site after watching Shaun Williams sign his 12 month with a 12 month option deal earlier today, Harris explained that work was ongoing when it came to new transfers but also ‘renegotiating’ with existing members of the side and he was pleased with the progress that he was making.
‘We’re getting closer all the time. Work during the back end of last season has got us into a really good place. Re-negotiating with current players is always a big part of that. Shaun Williams has been done and that’s absolutely vital, whilst talks are ongoing with Jimmy Abdou and Fred Onyedinma.’
As for Onyedinma specifically, Harris went on to say.
‘At one point it looked as though we may lose Fred, but now it looks as though we may be able to keep him. That’s what we want. He is a talented boy with a very bright future – we want that to be at this club. We want to continue working with him.’
As for further new faces following the additional of James Meredith from Bradford City the other day, Harris ended by adding.
‘New faces wise, we’re very close to completing two. James Meredith has been well publicised and we’re very pleased with that. Things are progressing nicely. We’re trying to be competitive this year and bring players in with Championship experience that are of a good age – that’s vital for us.’
