Manager Ian Holloway has singled out the performances of Scott McDonald and Jack Powell following their efforts in our two one win over Blackpool last weekend.
Powell’s freekick was finished by McDonald to give us the advantage in the first half, and then the Australian was again provider but this time for Scott Malone as he doubled our lead in the second half.
A late Blackpool consolation wasn’t enough to take away the well deserved three points.
Speaking to the official site following the game, the gaffer enthused about 31 year old McDonald.
‘What can I say? Absolutely brilliant I thought. He looked bright, he looked sharp and I think he looks as good as he was when he was playing for Celtic. Well done to him.’
As for 20 year old Powell who was making his full league debut for the club, Holloway added that he fully deserved his Man of the Match vote.
‘Outstanding. I thought he played really well against Southampton. I could of done other things but I wanted to reward the boy for his efforts. I know he’s a nice passer but you never know how they’re going to respond in a big game at The Den.’
Holloway adds that to be fair to Powell on that score, he looked like ‘he had been there all his life.’
Plenty of positives on the youthful front this season, as long as they can keep it going and they keep their feet on the ground.
