Manager Ian Holloway has described our new first team coach Nigel Gibbs as an fantastic addition to his backroom staff.
Having recently appointed Gibbs, Holloway told the official site that he was delighted to have him on board and he knows he brings good experience to the club that will have a beneficial effect on the players.
‘Gibbo is someone I have known for many years. He is a genuine fella who is a fantastic coach and we’re delighted that he has joined us. Gibbo has so much experience in the game and brings an added calmness to the place.’
He comes to us with coaching experience at Reading, Leeds and Watford and he began his work at the club earlier this week working alongside Holloway and assistant manager Marc Bircham.
‘For me it is just about sharpening up a few things on our game and I think Gibbo will help us do that. He has come in to help Birch on the training ground and I’ve been telling him my ideas. If you add that to the massive amount that he already knows then we can hopefully develop.’
Holloway goes on to question ‘how many different voices’ you need on a training ground and answering his own question he says he doesn’t believe it’s two, and that three is a better mix, so he’s been waiting for the right person to become available and he believes he’s found him in Gibbs.
‘Gibbo is the man, he is loyal, straight and honest. There is no reason why this couldn’t be a long term relationship. I wanted Gibbo to really understand what we’re looking to create here and he does.’
Whilst Gibbs has come in mainly to work with the senior squad, Holloway says that his remit will also include the levels below that as we seek to develop our own talent more, and that’s a challenge and role that ‘really floated his boat’ so Holloway’s expecting that he will really enjoy working with him.
