Aiden O’Brien has been speaking about the coming season in the Championship with the fixtures for the year being released on Wednesday morning.

9am on Wednesday this week will see all sides in the Football League know their schedule, and O’Brien told the official site that his only preference for the first game was that Millwall were at The Den.

‘It was a massive achievement for us as a club and for the players to win at Wembley – especially the ones that hadn’t won anything before. We loved it, we all celebrated, but we can’t wait to get back now and embrace Championship football – it’s going to be one hell of a ride.’

Will fixtures against the likes of Sunderland, Leeds United and Aston Villa next year, the Irishman went on to say that we’ll simply focus on ourselves rather than the opposition across the season.

‘There’s huge names on the list, but we’ve just got to do what we do, concentrate on pre-season and training and make sure we’re gelled and ready to go as a team. The friendlies will show if we’re doing everything right and then come the first game of the season – which will hopefully be at home – we can get off to a flying start.’

He went on to say more specifically about Wednesday and the release of the fixtures.

‘I hope we’re at home on the first day. There’s nothing better than The Den pumping and it would be just that if we were at home. I’ll take anyone – we won’t be an easy team to beat this season. It’s going to be a step up, but we’ve got to embrace it. We’ve got to listen to our coaches and get ourselves as fit as possible. We need to do what we have been doing in League One and hopefully, in The Championship, it will pay off.’
