Manager Ian Holloway has confirmed that new signings Lee Gregory and Byron Webster will be in the starting line up for our friendly against Conference Premier side Dartford on Prices Park tonight.

Kick off 7.45pm.

Speaking to the official site ahead of the match, Ollie said this was the next logical progression given all the hard work that the players had already put in on the training pitch since returning to pre season training, but he was quick to point out that he feels we are far from the finished product yet, so hopefully we’ll entertain the fans, but it is all still about fitness, sharpness and starting to put things we’ve worked on into practice so it becomes natural for the team.

‘This will be a training session against proper opposition really.I will be fielding a different team in each half, and each will be similar in strength, mixing in senior players with some of the younger lads.’

The gaffer says that will how the players have been put through their paces so far, he’s very confident that we have a very good base to work from, both in terms of fitness but also how he wants to play, so now it’s time to see how that comes together for 90 minutes across the group.

‘What I hope to see are some signs of the form we showed at the end of last season, and of course, I’d like to win the game. But we have to remember that this is primarily a training exercise.’

Holloway is taking a 26 man squad to Dartford, and they do include former Everton winger/midfielder, 24 year old Magaye Gueye and former Fulham defender, 23 year old Matthew Briggs, who are with us on trial at the moment, so the gaffer will likely give them a half to see if they impress and build on what they have shown so far in training.

Gueye scored once for Everton in 24 appearances, and Briggs played twice in the Premier League last year having come through their youth system.

Youngsters John Marquis, Sid Nelson, Aiden O’Brien, Fred Onyedinma and Jack Powell are also travelling as our youth contingent.
