Young defender Sid Nelson will be relishing the chance to get a real run of first team games under his belt following yesterday evening’s announcement of his loan to Newport County.
The 21 year old debuted in the December 28th fixture against Bournemouth in 2014/15, and went on to have his breakthrough campaign in the second half of the year making a total of 15 appearances. In 2015/16 he backed that up with another 14 appearances and so far in 2016/17 he’s turned out nine times for manager Neil Harris but last featured in the December 10th loss to Shrewsbury.
The player now heads out to the League Two side on a standard loan deal until the end of the current campaign and we are just awaiting his international clearance.
It’s expected that will come through today, Friday latest, and that he’ll go straight into their squad for the game against Stevenage at the weekend.
Newport are bottom of the table and five points adrift, so one way or another it should be a good experience for him as he continues his own development.
