Right back Mahlon Romeo has capped of a fine season for him by signing a new long term contract at Millwall earlier today.
The 20 year old youngster only moved to the club from Gillingham last summer, and he had to wait until February to make his first team debut – marking that debut in style by scoring in the three nil away victory over Walsall.
Since then a further eight appearances have followed and he’s become key to manager Neil Harris’ first team squad in that time, more than playing his part in helping the club into fifth place in the League One table.
Speaking to the official site after penning his new deal until the summer of 2019, the player said.
‘Naturally I’m very pleased to secure my future at the club which has given me my chance in senior football. I’d like to thank the manager and his coaching staff for showing faith in me ever since I moved to Millwall last summer. It’s been brilliant to be a part of the first team set-up in recent months. There is a great group of lads here and I’m really excited about the rest of this season and the long-term future.’
Manager Neil Harris was obviously delighted to see him signed up for longer.
‘Mahlon has seized his chance in the first team with both hands and really deserves this new contract, which I’m delighted has now been signed. Going back to last summer I said that the club would be giving its younger players a chance to continue their progress into the first team and Mahlon is one of a group of bright, talented players who have impressed me, my coaching staff and, importantly, the fans. Mahlon is a hard working young professional and we’re very pleased that he is the latest to commit his long-term future to Millwall.’
