The Football League have released a statement ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures following the tragic events in Paris.
Earlier in the week the Premier League confirmed they had been giving additional advice to top flight clubs following the Paris attacks, explaining that additional security guidance would be offered including a public statement to fans to explain what they could expect when it came to the the stepped up security procedures following yet more pointless terrorist attacks.
Today the Football League themselves issued a similar statement, confirming they too had been in touch with clubs and Millwall.
‘Since the tragic events in Paris on Friday night, The Football League has been in regular contact with all of its member clubs asking them to remain vigilant in maintaining the high levels of matchday and non-matchday security that is in place at their stadiums.’
The statement went on to confirm that they had received no ‘specific intelligence’ of a ‘heightened threat’ to any of the games that will take place, but obviously there are concerns and worries and dialogue is on going with the likes of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office, the Police, the Premier League, the Sports Ground Safety Authority and other key stakeholders so that everybody is kept uptodate.
‘We would also ask supporters to be vigilant and patient of any measures implemented by club security staff that are intended to protect their well-being.’
The very least I would imagine match day goers can expect is far more bag and personal pad down searches from stewards and officials ahead of entry to the ground.
The Premier League have also announced today that the French national anthem ‘La Marseillaise’ will be played ahead of top flight games as a mark of remembrance and solidarity but I’m not yet sure if this will be replicated by Football League clubs but there will be a minutes silence no doubt.
