With manager Neil Harris making no secret of the fact he wanted to sign on loan Shane Ferguson to a permanent deal from Newcastle United, Millwall have been successful in that attempt.
Having revealed the other week that we had put in a ‘strong’ offer for the midfielder, but at that time only seen his loan extended by his parent club for a further month, it was later revealed in the press that negotiations were ongoing between the player and Newcastle over the remainder of the contract with him being a free agent in the summer, and with those negotiations finished, he joined us yesterday for an undisclosed fee.
The 24 year old came to us earlier on in the season and has made 28 appearances so far for the club, and he impressed Harris enough for him to want to add the Northern Ireland international to our ranks properly.
Speaking to the official site having now penned a deal with us until the summer of 2017, he explained.
‘It’s a relief to get the deal done. I’ve been keen to get everything sorted and I’m now really looking forward to my future with Millwall. I’ve loved every second of my time here so it was a no-brainer to sign on a permanent basis. My task now is to help Millwall get back where we belong, which hopefully can be done this season.’
The gaffer added.
‘Shane has displayed his ability in two different positions for us since he joined on loan, so naturally I’m delighted that he is now with us on a permanent basis. He has shown a real desire to stay here and is of an age where he needs to be playing football regularly for the sake of his own development, and we have given him that opportunity. I believe that it is a fantastic piece of business and I would like to thank the board for given me the opportunity to buy a player of Shane’s quality and age.’
Millwall also confirmed that winger Paris Cowan-Hall has rejoined former club Wycombe Wanderers and he will now remain at Adams Park until the end of the season on a loan spell.
The 25 year old moved to Millwall from the club back in January 2015, but he has only made eleven appearances since then, the last of which back in November.
He spent time out on loan with Bristol Rovers earlier this season, so no great surprise to see him head out again.
