Millwall last night confirmed that two defenders had been offered new deals, but seven players would be moving on this summer when their contracts expire.

Announcing the retained/released list, four senior players – Carlos Edwards, Ed Upson, Lee Martin and John Marquis will leave the club when their contracts expire this summer, as new offers won’t be made, and three members of the Under 21 Development Squad will also depart, in the shape of Jack Powell, Chris Parr and Keaton Wood who also won’t be offered contract extensions.

Chris Taylor returns to Blackburn Rovers following the expiry of his loan deal.

Mark Beevers is in discussions with manager Neil Harris over a new deal, and Millwall held twelve months options on both Byron Webster and Joe Martin and they have been enacted – both staying until at least next summer.

Speaking to the official site Harris explained.

‘First and foremost I want to thank all the players who are leaving us for their immense dedication and hard work during their time at the club. They handled my decision like true professionals and I wish Carlos, Ed, Lee, John, Jack, Chris and Keaton nothing but the very best of luck for their future careers. It is always incredibly hard to make decisions like these but they are done so with what I feel are the club’s long-term best interests at heart. My task now is to continue shaping a squad which can once again challenge for promotion in the 2016/17 season.’
