Young striker John Marquis has now ended speculation about his future by signing a new contract at Millwall.

The 23 year old has so far made 55 appearances for the club, scoring six times but he has taken in a number of loan spells and ended last season out with Gillingham making 21 appearances with a return of eight goals.

He also spent time with Cheltenham Town earlier in the season, making a further 16 appearances, with a return of two goals.

Speaking to the official site manager Neil Harris talked of his delight at securing his future on a 12 month deal, with a 12 month option for the club.

‘I’m absolutely delighted that John has signed his new deal. I watched him on many occasions during his time at Gillingham and he put in some top performances. John has shown he has what it takes to score regularly at the level we’re going to be playing at. He has a great character and is a real winner. John’s attitude is fantastic and I know how determined he is to play and score goals for Millwall.’

Harris went on to say that really Marquis is a different type of striker compared to those we have contracted for next season, so he’s an alternative option during games and another piece of the ‘jigsaw’ for him as he looks to rebuild the squad.

‘I’m pleased to get this over the line and hopefully we will have more on new signings and current players extending their contracts soon.’
