Striker John Marquis has put pen to paper today on a new 12 month contract extension that will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2015.

The 21 year old’s first team opportunities this season have been limited, and he spent time out earlier in the campaign with Portsmouth and Torquay United in order to get games under his belt, but new manager Ian Holloway is convinced he has his part to play with us this season now and having included him in his plans for his three games in charge so far, he’s challenged the youngster to step up to the plate.

Speaking to the official site Marquis accepted that his season hadn’t really got going yet, even though the loan spells were good for him, so he’s hoping to now have a good impact in the first team when called on by the gaffer to justify the faith he’s showing in him.

‘The new gaffer has shown real faith in me since he arrived, and now with my injury niggles behind me I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.’

The striker adds that he knows he has to work hard on the training pitch and be patient for his chance to come along, but more importantly be ready to take that chance when it does.
