With growing speculation, ahead of the game against Blackpool, Millwall announced the return of the Hof.
The 32 year old was announced Friday evening and he comes back to The Den having first joined us last March, playing his part in securing our Championship status last season.
He has signed a deal until the end of the season and the move was subject to international clearance, but that came through in time for the game as he made his re-debut at Bloomfield Road as a second half substitute.
Speaking to the official site as his arrival was announced, the Austrian said.
‘It’s a good feeling coming back here. I have stayed in touch with the gaffer and in the last few days he has called me everyday and said ‘come on big man, we need you’. I think for me and the way I play, it’s very good to be back with this club. I’m big and strong and hope that I can do the same as last time.’
He has been handed the No 42 shirt once more, and hopefully his second spell will be as successful as the first.
One key difference this time around is that he comes to us having played regularly for Wiener Neustadt so his fitness and sharpness will be a lot better than it was last season, so it shouldn’t take him too long to adjust this time round.
Having made the efforts to get the ‘big man’ back, manager Ian Holloway talked himself about the return of the striker and admitted he couldn’t have been more delighted to get him.
‘We have been working hard to get him back here so I’m delighted that the deal is done. As we saw at the end of last season, Stefan gives us something completely different in terms of his presence up front so I’m glad that we now have a new option and some more choices. He came in late last year and made an impact in the run which helped us stay up, but this time around we have longer to work together and I know how determined he is to get out there and play for Millwall.’
