Manager Steve Lomas has challenged the players ahead of the game against Bolton Wanderers this weekend to keep it clean at the back and end the game with a clean sheet.
Ever since our last match against Burnley – two all draw – Lomas says he’s been drilling the team defensively because he really wants us to tighten up in the Bolton game, and he wants to start chipping away at the fact we have conceded 14 goals in our last five games.
The fact we are scoring at the other end, means that keeping a clean sheet could effectively guarantee us victory with how we have been playing.
Speaking to the official site ahead of the match, he said.
‘We’ve had three very good performances, but that being said we would have liked a few more points. It’s going to be a tough game as Bolton are in decent form and picked a good win at Bournemouth last weekend. They will be on their game so we have to put on a similar performance and hopefully keep a clean sheet.’
Whilst Lomas has obviously lost the services of Shaun Derry who ended his loan spell, mutually cancelled his contract with QPR and took up the post of Notts County manager the other day, he can welcome back Jimmy Abdou following suspension and Richard Chaplow who has returned to training and sufficient fitness following injury to now be considered for the match day squad.
The gaffer says that finding some continuity is difficult because we are losing people as we get a few people back, but that’s football you have to get on with it.
As for Derry, Lomas wishes him all the best in his new role and challenge, describing him as a ‘fantastic professional’ who deserves further success in the game.
