Steve Lomas has joked this this Sunday will be the first time he’ll be happy to see the Sunday paper fall through the door following our second win of the season against Charlton.

Following the victory over Blackpool in midweek, the aim was always to build on that in the local derby, and Scott McDonald more than put a smile on the gaffer’s face when he fired us in front on 38 minutes.

Speaking to London24 following the game, the manager said.

‘Everyone was on a downer after the Derby game and rightly so, but today the lads have done their job well, and that’s satisfying. I’m pleased for Scott, we probably ask him to play slightly out of position but it worked a treat today. It’s the first Sunday in a while I’ll have a coffee and read the papers.’

17th place is a marked improvement on where we have been sitting in the league for a while, and whilst it’s not ultimately where we would want to finish this season, at least we are pushing away from the bottom of the table now and building up a bit of a gap on the struggling teams.

Difficult to get too carried away after just two victories, but with how long it has taken them to come at least it sort of demonstrates that Lomas is pulling the squad together and they are gelling as the weeks pass, so hopefully results will continue to be positive and the earlier doom won’t return.
